SPCPA Jazz Ensemble takes 1st Place in its Division at the 43rd Annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival
The SPCPA Jazz Ensemble won first place in its division in the jazz combo category. They competed against some of the very best jazz programs from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana. Their outstanding performance won them a second performance at the coveted afternoon concert in front of all of the other competing schools - about 600-700 people in the Zorn Arena. The band was acknowledged later that night at the finale for their performance in front of about 1000 people attending the concert featuring Grammy Award winning trumpeter Nicholas Payton and the Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I.
The icing on the cake was winning the 43rd Annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival trophy for Excellence in Jazz Education. Out of 60 schools, we were the only school to have 100% of our students attend all of the available jazz clinics during the day. For a third time that day our school was acknowledged in front of all the festival attendees.
SPCPA Jazz Ensemble includes: Matt Blake, Robert Reeve, Tyler Schuett, Kyle Caspers, Kris Bergh, Kaela Breezee, Tyler Edwards, Joey Hays, Patrick and Westley Mager, Lauren Haberman, and Jack Sloan.
